Courageous American Soldiers
Obverse: The obverse portrait of Founding Father George Washington was sculpted in 1932 by John Flanagan. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” The famed Rotunda Clock located at the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building in Washington D.C. is an additional example of Mr. Flanagan’s work.
Reverse: The reverse depicts Guam’s Asan Bay, as two American soldiers stealthily invade its shores during the July 1944 Battle for Guam. Inscriptions include “WAR IN THE PACIFIC,” “GUAM,” “2019” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The smooth edge of the coin features the incused inscription “.999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE.” The design was created by Joel Iskowitz, a member of the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program since 2005.
