The American Innovation series of dollar coins was introduced in 2018. This U.S. Mint series highlights the achievements of great minds throughout the history of our nation. This clad proof dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint. It features the first design of the series, the Signed First Patent. The coins of this series also feature a lettered edge.
Liberty and Innovation
The design on the obverse shows the Statue of Liberty. It takes up a large portion of this side, the perspective of the design is some distance away from the statue. The face value and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are on this side.
The reverse shows George Washington’s signature and just below it are the words “SIGNED FIRST PATENT.” This side of the coin is also inscribed with “AMERICAN INNOVATORS” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
NGC GEM Proof Early Releases with a Washington Label
This specimen has a Washington label to show its grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Since this coin still looks just like when it left the Mint, and since it was submitted within 30 days of its official release date, it was given the grade of GEM Proof and the Early Releases (ER) designation.
