The Royal British Mint has released a new coin in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the House of Windsor this release is struck with nearly double thickness of an average coin creating a distinct and assertive piece for any collection. In 1917, King George V made the decision to rename many of the Royal Houses, as most of them had German names. These names caused unease in much of the British population, since anti-German sentiments were at its height, and as such, the previously known Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was renamed as the House of Windsor.
