The second release of the series was a tribute to the iconic Standing Liberty Quarter designed by award-winning American sculptor Hermon A. MacNeil. While the original Standing Liberty Quarter was minted from .900 fine silver, the 2016-W Centennial version was struck from 24 karat gold. The one-quarter ounce weight of the coin was specifically chosen as an homage to the coin’s denomination.

Breathtaking Historic Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse stepping forward between a low wall opening adorned with thirteen stars, while grasping an olive branch of peace and a patriotic shield. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “AU 24K 1/4 OZ,” the West Point Mint mark “W” and “2016.” Credit to the artist appears as MacNeil’s initial “M” beside the date.
Reverse: An eagle with its wings extended in glorious flight is depicted on the reverse. The stunning rendition of the U.S. national bird is encircled by thirteen stars, along with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
