75th Anniversary of The March of Dimes Honored With Unique 3-Coin Set
March of Dimes was a charitable organization fighting to rid the world of Polio and better the welfare of children across the globe. Founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938, the foundation was an alliance between scientists and doctors who sought to cure the crippling and deadly disease Polio.
The U.S. Government is now commemorating this great organization by minting a March of Dimes set of 3 coins. The Proofs in the set are a 90% Silver Dollar, and two Silver Roosevelt Dimes. One is a regular Proof, the other a reverse Proof. The obverse of the Silver Dollar shows a profile of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, along with Jonas Salk who developed the vaccine that protects against the disease. A baby cuddled in its parent’s hands on the reverse signifies the March of Dimes commitment to the health of babies. The dimes feature the regular portraits and torch we know so well. In fact, the Roosevelt Dime is the only current circulating coin with a design that has never been changed by the Mint.
