Classic Kennedy Half Dollar Design
Obverse: The obverse features a portrait of Kennedy which had received the personal approval of the president for use on a presidential medal. Surrounding inscriptions include “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the anniversary dates “1964-2014.” The portrait is an example of the work of Gilroy Roberts, an American sculptor who served as the 9th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver, from 1948 until 1964.
Reverse: The reverse features the United States Presidential Seal, as interpreted by Frank Gasparro. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “HALF DOLLAR,” the Mint mark “W” and “3/4 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.” Gasparro was the 10th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, whose additional design credits include the Eisenhower Dollar and the reverse of the 1959-2008 Lincoln Cent.
