Beautifully Rendered Patriotic Imagery
Obverse: Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse wearing an elegant gown, surrounded by a border of fifty stars. Ms. Liberty confidently steps forward holding aloft a flaming torch of enlightenment and an olive branch of peace. The rays of a dawning sun fan out behind her, above the distinctively shaped dome of the U.S. Capitol Building. Inscribed “LIBERTY” and “2014.” Award-winning sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens collaborated with President Theodore Roosevelt to create this image, which originally appeared on the Gold Double Eagle coin in 1907.
Reverse: The reverse illustrates a family of eagles as a majestic airborne eagle prepares to add an olive branch to their nest. This image was designed for the Gold Eagle series by artist Miley Busiek, an acclaimed American sculptor. The eagle family graphic is the primary identifying element of the Type-1 style Gold Eagle minted from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD” and “10 DOLLARS.”
