Breathtaking Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse as a young woman dramatically enveloped in the flag of the United States, as she strolls towards a new day’s sun. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2012” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The design is a replica of the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar created by Adolph A. Weinman, a prolific medallic and architectural sculptor of the early 20th century.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its grip, with thirteen stars above. This is the Type-1 design that was featured on the reverse of all Silver Eagle coins issued from 1986 until its retirement in mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The image is the work of John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
