Description

2006 Silver Eagle NGC MS69

This 2006 Silver Eagle received a nearly perfect grade, MS69, from the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC), which is respected around the world as one of the top coin grading services. Around the world, people collect Silver Eagles not only because of their beautiful design but also because of the fact that the United States government backs their silver content. This coin is 2.98 mm thick and 40.6 mm in diameter, giving it a combination of heft and faces that are easy to view and appreciate. The coin you receive may be housed in an NGC slab that is of an older style than what you see above.

Design of the 2006 Silver Eagle

The Walking Liberty design was first created by Adolph Weinman in 1916 for the Walking Liberty half dollar, but it was revived and serves as the obverse of this 2006 Silver Eagle. Lady Liberty is draped in the American flag, part of which can be seen waving in the upper left. In her left arm, she carries laurel and oak branches, which serve as symbols of civilian and military honors. Her right arm is extended toward the left side of the coin, and its palm is open toward the holder. Lady Liberty’s left foot extends to the lower right, and above it is the inscription of the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The sun, the rays of which extend upward and behind Lady Liberty, is setting behind a mountain in the lower left. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed along the rim, and the mintage year, “2006,” is shown at the bottom.

On the reverse, an eagle guards a shield. The shield has thirteen stripes, which, like the stars positioned over the eagle’s head, represent the first thirteen states. One of the eagle’s talons holds an olive branch while the other grasps arrows. In its beak, it holds a ribbon that extends to either side. The ribbon reads, “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Arching along the rim at the top is the name of the country that issued the coin, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” An inscription that takes up the rest of the rim, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR,” informs collectors about the silver content and face value of the coin.

Why add this 2006 Silver Eagle to your collection?

This 2006 Silver Eagle is so close to perfect that few could find its flaws without looking for them. It contains 1 Troy oz. of .999 silver, and is a beautiful piece for any patriotic American.
