Imagery Honoring the Legacy of Native Americans
Obverse: The obverse features a right facing portrait of a Native American Chief. His hair is traditionally styled in a simple plait, bound with leather cord and adorned with several feathers. Accompanying inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2001” and Fraser’s initial “F.”
Reverse: An American Buffalo is portrayed standing on the reverse in a left facing pose, upon a flattened mound of dirt. The rendition of the majestic creature is based upon the likeness of Black Diamond, an American buffalo that lived in the early 1900s at the New York Central Park Zoo.
