The Winged Liberty Head Dime, or Mercury Dime, was a product of the U.S. Mint from 1916 until 1945. The design for the coin is an example of the work of acclaimed American sculptor Adolph A. This dramatically oversized privately minted tribute to the Mercury Dime is an homage to the series 1916-D key date, which is notably the only release of the series with a mintage below one million coins.

Sensational Tribute to a Historic U.S. Coin Design
Obverse: The obverse features a left-facing rendition of Lady Liberty, portrayed as a young woman wearing a winged Phrygian cap. The distinctive Winged Liberty Dime’s common moniker of Mercury Dime was a result of the resemblance of Liberty’s winged cap to that of the Roman God Mercury. Inscriptions accompanying the iconic portrait include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1916” and the artist’s initials as the monogram “AW.”
Reverse: On the reverse, a Roman fasces appears at the center, with an olive branch gracefully curved around the ancient weapon. The combination of the two components is emblematic of unity, strength, and peace. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DIME” and the honorary Mint mark “D.” The inscription “2 TROY OUNCE .999 AG” is micro-printed along the sharpened curved edge of the axe blade.
