Stunning Type 1 and Type 2 Silver Eagle Designs
Obverse: The obverse of the American Silver Eagle remains relatively the same, except for Adolph Weinman’s artist initials, “AW” appearing on the Type 2 Silver Eagle. The iconic design still features the classic Walking Liberty design. During its time in circulation on the half dollar, the Walking Liberty design was a favorite of collectors and non-collectors alike. The date is displayed at the bottom of the design as Liberty is shown walking confidently across the sunny scene.
Reverse: This side is where the big changes are. The Type 1 reverse is the same design that has always been on the reverse of these coins, it shows a heraldic bald eagle. The new Type 2 reverse features a level of detail that is quite striking even by modern standards. It shows an eagle during its descent as it grasps an oak branch.
