Description

Why buy this 1999 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?

The 1999 edition of the Silver Eagle was highly prone to milk spots and not many achieved the high Mint State 70 grade. Of the 7,408,640 mintage, JUST 65 achieved the top Mint State 70 grade and were paired with the Mercanti Flag certification label according to the NGC census as of 06/10/2021. This low population makes this coin a particularly attractive option for collectors who love the bullion series but appreciate having coins in conditions that are not all that easy to come by.

  • This coin is $1 legal tender in the United States.

Obverse: The iconic Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman graces the obverse. The early morning sun is beginning to rise as an American flag-draped Liberty carries branches. Obverse inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “1999.” Adolph Weinman is most famous as the designer of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He also made numerous other numismatic contributions and was a prolific sculptor.

Reverse: Three rim inscriptions, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” encircle John Mercanti’s reverse design. Mercanti modeled that design off of the Great Seal of the United States It consists of thirteen stars and an eagle that guards a union shield. John Mercanti was the US Mint’s twelfth Chief Engraver. He held the post for just part of his nearly four decades with the US Mint, during which time he became American history’s most prolific designer of coins and medals.
