Why add the 1988-S Proof American Silver Eagle GEM Proof (Original Mint Packaging) to your collection?
This 1988-S Proof American Silver Eagle in the Original Mint Packaging was struck at the US Mint facility in San Francisco, California. It is in GEM condition and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The familiar obverse design of the American Silver Eagle was based on the Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty Half Dollar which was originally introduced in 1916. It is widely considered one of the most attractive designs in American Numismatics. Lady Liberty is walking embraced and surrounded by the US Flag. She is carrying branches of laurel and oak. The inscriptions “Liberty” and “In God We Trust” appear along with the year 1988.
The reverse was designed by 12th Chief US Mint Engraver John M. Mercanti and depicts the Heraldic Eagle with a shield, grasping arrows and an olive branch. The bald eagle appears beneath thirteen stars arranged in an inverse triangle, with wings spread holding a pennant that reads “E Pluribus Unum” (Out of Many, One). Reverse inscriptions read “United States of America” and “1 oz, Fine Silver—One Dollar.”
Each coin is comprised of 1 oz. of .999 fine silver with the content guaranteed by the US Government. Each coin is legal tender in the United States.
Mintage of the proof issue of the 1988 American Silver Eagle was 557,370, which is low by the standards set in recent years. Buy yours from ModernCoinMart today!
