Familiar Design Brilliance
Obverse: The familiar obverse design is based on Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty half dollar. This design features Lady Liberty walking while she is wrapped in the American Flag. Her hand is outstretched as she carries branches of oak and laurel.
Reverse: The reverse is probably the most famous design from 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, John M. Mercanti. The design features a Heraldic American Bald Eagle, with wings spread and holding arrows in one claw and the olive branch of Peace in the other.
