Featuring Anthony de Francisci’s Patriotic Eagle Design
Obverse: Both the obverse and reverse were designed by Anthony de Francisci. On the obverse, Liberty faces left wearing a radiate crown. Her name, “LIBERTY,” arches over the image, while additional inscriptions on this face include the date, “1934,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRVST.”
Reverse: The rays of the morning sun spread out behind an eagle, which is perched on a rocky crag on the reverse. The bird splits an inscription of the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR.” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed above, while the name of the coin, “PEACE,” is noted below. Anthony de Francisci was a Sicilian-American numismatic designer. The Peace Dollar is his most famous work.
