The U.S. Mint’s Silver Peace Dollar was issued from 1921-1935, with 1922 being the second year of production of the coin at Philadelphia Mint. Designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the coin would turn out to be the last one dollar denomination series struck in the U.S. until the introduction of the Eisenhower Dollar in 1971. Mintage of this 1922 Peace Dollar struck at the Philadelphia from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver is reported to be 51,737,000.
Beautiful Design of the Peace Dollar
A female personification of Liberty is depicted left facing on the obverse, her hair flowing freely beneath an elegant radiate crown. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1922.”
The reverse features an eagle standing proudly upon a rock clutching an olive branch, gazing towards the rising sun in the distance. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “PEACE.”
