The Morgan Silver Dollar was first released in 1978 by the U.S. Mint and was the first standard silver coin to be produced under the coinage act of 1973. This release was minted in 1899 and features a weight of 26.73g and has a metal purity of .900 fine silver. It has a very low mintage of only 330,000!
Featuring the iconic work of George T. Morgan
Depicted on the obverse is a portrait of Lady Liberty, this effigy is unique as it was one of the first early American coins to depict her with modern features. Artist George T. Morgan modeled his design after teacher and philosophical writer, Anna Wiles Williams.
The reverse features a depiction of a bald eagle, it carries an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Engraved around the design are inscriptions which read; “UNITED STANDS OF AMERICAN,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
