Obverse: A scene demonstrating the friendship between the U.S. Presidency and the Native American Nations is depicted on the obverse. George Washington is portrayed in a military uniform supporting the pipe of his Native American ally, who is dressed in traditional headdress and armbands, with the gifted medal around his neck. Inscriptions below the image include “GEORGE WASHINGTON,” “PRESIDENT” and “1792.”
Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle with a striped shield at its breast, grasping an olive branch and a bundle of thirteen arrows, with a banner held in its beak inscribed with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” which is Latin for “out of many, one.” The image represents the Great Seal of the United States, which had been officially adopted by the Continental Congress ten years earlier in 1782.
