The 2024 dated quarters are graced with beautiful reverse designs celebrating the achievements of Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray (poet, writer, activist, lawyer, Episcopal priest and advocate for social justice), Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink (a Member of Congress who fought for bilingual education, affordable childcare, and gender and racial equality), Dr. Mary Edwards Walker (a Civil War era civilian surgeon of the U.S. Army and the only woman to be awarded the prestigious Medal of Honor), Celia Cruz (a Cuban-American singer and one of the most popular 20th century Latin artists), and Zitkala-Ša, also known as Gertrude Simmons Bonnin (a political activist for Native American rights and citizenship in the early 20th century). The obverse of each quarter features the rendition of George Washington that was originally recommended by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts for the 1932 Washington Quarter. The right facing portrait of the first U.S. President was created by acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser.
